Dr. Chantelle Magel

Registered Clinical Psychologist, Psychology Associate

I am a Registered Psychologist with experience supporting children and youth navigating neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health challenges. I obtained my BSc (Hons.) in Psychology at the University of Calgary and went on to be admitted to their Clinical Psychology program, where I obtained my MSc and my PhD. My graduate research focused on eating disorders and body image. Throughout my training, I worked in a variety of clinical settings around Calgary doing assessment, therapy, and consultation with children, youth, and families with a variety of mental health concerns including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, eating disorders, and behavioural concerns.

I completed my pre-doctoral clinical residency within the Saskatoon and Area Psychology Residency Program, where I received extensive training working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Developmental Disorder (IDD), and other developmental differences. During my time at the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program in Saskatoon, I worked closely with developmental pediatricians, pediatric psychiatrists, and other clinical psychologists and was trained to administer the 'gold standard' assessment instrument for ASD, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2), as well as comprehensive developmental interviews. This training served to bridge the gap with my previous experience in child and adolescent mental health and allows me to provide evidence-based service to children, adolescents, and young adults with complex concerns.

My training experiences have served to provide me with the skills necessary to administer thorough assessments to individuals aged 2-23 years with diverse neurodevelopmental profiles, through a client-centered and neuro-affirming lens. I assess for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, giftedness, as well as mental health diagnoses. I also provide therapy services for children, adolescents, and young adults, supporting emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns using evidence-based approaches. My goal is to help individuals and families better understand their strengths and challenges and to move forward with the clarity and confidence they deserve.
